Weathered blue outdoor table and reflected light pattern create a visual feast

Thanks for viewing this new addition to my website. For many years, I ran a photography blog over on my other website, markpetersonphotography.com. But that decade-long or so collection of posts was corrupted during a transfer to a new web host. I lost it. For quite some time since, I’ve wanted to renew the effort to create a new visual journal. The beginning of a new year seems like a good time to start.

I make photographs – either assignment work or personal images – every day. Creating photographs is a large component of my work. But on the personal side making photos is also my way of processing the world as I encounter it. I very rarely post to social media any more, so I intend this to be my journal of the places, people, and views I encounter.

Sometimes posts will be photographs supported by words. Other times full stories. Some posts will be images alone: either new images from that day, or collections of images from recent projects, trips, or outings. And I expect some posts may feature images or portfolios from my archives. The content may include landscape and nature photography, urban landscapes or street, travel documentary, or portraiture. I may also include some out-takes/behind-the-scenes looks at assignment projects. I’m traveling frequently these days – often to larger cities – so I expect travel documentary, urban imagery, and some street photography to appear frequently, as well.

Regardless of the images coming out of my camera each day or week, I’m determined to post frequently. I thank you for viewing this visual journal, and I hope you’ll return frequently. So here we go!

I made the image accompanying this post yesterday while walking in the “Roosevelt Row” area of Phoenix, Arizona. Sunshine refracted through a panel of colored orange and blue glass lenses that are part of an outdoor art piece, then filtered through the grid of this weathered outdoor table. The result was colorful pattern projected on the brick walkway. I had to stop to document it.
